Springfield Police Department News

SPD just wanted to say “thank you” to the citizen who anonymously paid the tab for the SWAT Team’s dinner last night. The Team had been training yesterday and after the work day ended they decided to go to dinner together at the Golden Jersey Inn. At the end of the meal, the officers asked for their checks and were told that a citizen had paid the bill for all of them! The officers were told that the citizen wished to remain anonymous. What an act of kindness and generosity. The Team members asked us to post this in hopes that the citizen who did that might see it and know how moved they all were by that kind gesture. So, if you’re out there – Thank You from all of us at SPD!

German police officer, Stefan Burhop, arrived at the department today. Sgt, Selner traded patches with him. Thanks for stopping by!

On 13 October, 2018, Sergeant Thomas Selner was recognized by the Miami Valley Islamic Association as Police Officer of the Year for 2018. This award was in recognition of Tom’s tireless service to the Springfield community, particularly his work with children and families in need. We are proud to have Tom as a member of the Springfield Police Division and as the leader of our Community Response Team. His work exemplifies the standards that all law enforcement officers should strive everyday to achieve. Congratulations, Tom! –

Once again, as a reminder, we do not monitor Facebook 24/7. If you need a police response, please call 911 in an emergency or 324-7680 in a non-emergency situation.

Shout out to the Springfield Masonic Community! Local law enforcement, fire, and EMS personnel from around the area were invited to a Safety Forces Appreciation breakfast at the beautiful W. National Road campus this morning. All were greeted with a smile, warm welcome, and some great food. Each agency was also gifted with bunch of Ohio Masonic Home Care Bears to give to local children when they need a little extra love and support. The Springfield Police Division really appreciates our partners in the Masonic community. Thanks so much! – Chief Graf
